Spring = Sewing

I always feel an itch to sew clothing in the spring. I love sewing simple dresses and items for the summer and love sewing with cottons. There are two items right now that I am eager to get working on. The first item (which I actually started working on last weekend) is the 'Tiny Pocket Tank' by grainline. I love the proportions, the simplicity of the pattern and, per my mock up, the great fit! I will hopefully get it finished this weekend so I can post some photos. In the meantime, I'm thinking about a great Liberty print for the next tank (or tank dress!):

The other item I'm excited about is the DIY Bi-Color Dress that I saw on Style Scrapbook. I have a men's white shirt handy (thank you, husband) and some miscellaneous fabric that could easily be put to good use on this dress.
If I manage to get up and caffeinated at a reasonable hour, I may have some new items to wear come Sunday. Fingers crossed.

Hello, my finished tote!

It's finally done and only two days after the recipient's birthday. It took me a while to get down to M&J Trim to pickup the webbing. I had wanted red webbing but the color selection wasn't as flush as it is online so I ended up with black. The webbing is also a bit stiffer than I was looking for but I'm hoping it will soften with a bit of wear. All in all, I think it came out pretty well!  Now is the fun part - where I stuff it with of gifts ...

Housewarming Gift

Friends of mine just bought their first home and I decided to gift them with a trio of hand knit wash cloths. The yarn is Lion Brand Nature's Organic Cotton. I love this yarn - it has a great texture, comes in beautiful natural colors and is very soft. I used a simple pattern and managed to get these knit up on the subway this week. Now it's back to my regular project 'to-do' list!

Everything I Know About Makeup I Learned from Agent Scully

Adam and I have been watching the X-Files full time (2-3 episodes a day - thank you Netflix). The X-Files was one of my favorite shows when I was in high school and as I've been watching these episodes again, many years later, I've come to realize Agent Scully's impact on my early attempts at wearing makeup. Seriously. Some of my first makeup items (and colors I still go to today), are all 'Agent Scully' colors - rust colored lipstick, matte peachy/pale skin, neutral eye makeup and, not too long ago, that same red hair color.

 .
So glad I never took to wearing her pant or skirt suits (with cream pantyhose) - so bad!

New In Store

Just added some black hoods to the Etsy store. It's hard to photograph black so I was waiting for a sunny weekend to get some snapshots in. Our planned color palette of black, cream and red is now complete!

Going Back to the 90's

I was listening to NPR's 'All Songs Considered' podcast earlier this week where the topic was music from the 90's. It was a great episode and totally got me thinking about all the songs that defined, for me, the formative middle school, high school and early college years. The first two songs that popped into my head were by Saint Etienne and Weezer. I really hope they do a follow up to this episode - there were a number of songs where I smiled and thought 'oh yeah ...!'

In the meantime, enjoy these YouTube links to two awesome videos from the 90's.

Hello, my friend!

'I sometimes want to have a time when I can laugh'

So funny! I found this fabric at Purl Soho during their recent clearance sale. It's just the cutest thing and is in the process of being made into something special for my sister at NASA. It's proving to be a great project for this rainy Sunday.  I'll be sure to post more photos!

Matchbook Magazine

I can't remember how I stumbled onto this web magazine but the second issue was just delivered to my Inbox. I can't wait to flip through!
