Tiny Pocket Tank Complete

I had talked about making the Tiny Pocket Tank and now I finally have a finished project, hooray! I really love it - and wore it work today. Maybe I can get a full length photo this weekend. My new profile picture is the best I could get of me actually wearing the garment. I'm excited to get some more items made!

need dace now

The entire Spring '11 Collection from dace is making me salivate. I wish the entire collection was in my closet right now.

There's an episode of Gilmore Girls where Lorelai is shopping and lamenting that there are no good clothes to be bought 'There are no more clothes out there for me. The Lorelai looks is over. I wish someone told me.' I have often felt this way. Looking at this collection though, all I could think is, the Melissa look is back! And right now it's 40% off. I may not be able to buy everything but I'm definitely going in for one, maybe two pieces. Watch out wallet!

Fabrics

Today I went fabric shopping hoping to find something for a new summer romper. I ended up falling in love with an entire wall of ikat. I left with the three prints above. I think the middle one will end up as the romper. I can't wait to get these sewn up. The print, the texture and the beautiful way they ironed up make me so happy.

It's Romper Time!

Today I made a mock up of a romper, McCall's 6083. It was so quick to sew and FITS! With this style, I was worried it would need several adjustments. I'm so surprised it won't need any. I'm excited to get some fabric to sew up the final garment! I love dreaming up what the final piece could look like.

Take a Chance

Being the long-time Kate Spade fan that I am, it only made sense for me to fall in love with Chance. The company was started by Kate Spade’s former Creative Director and it focuses on simple, classic basics – most notably the striped shirt.
I visited the Chance pop up store several weeks ago and bought the Scoop Neck Dress which has quickly become my most favorite piece of summer clothing.  The fit and cut are incredibly flattering. The pop up store is having a sale this weekend and I intend to pay them another visit and this time scoop up some of those striped tank tops

Summer Inspiration

So many great independent designers are posting their new creations! Wiksten will have her Spring ’11 items up for sale tomorrow. I really love the collection - I can totally see myself wearing these pieces for a long time to come. The photos are also really great and showcase the cut and style of the items well. I’m totally inspired to get sewing on some new summer pieces. And to go buy a lottery ticket.

New Bags

I just took a look at Rennes new collection of bags and I'm in love. I need to start saving some serious cash. I can't decide which I like better, the back pack or duffle. Either way, the dinosaur taupe is looking classic! All photos are from her newly launched website (great images to boot!).

Work in Progress

I started this dress at the end of May/early June. I made a bust adjustment and somehow threw off the whole fit/feel of the dress. The neckline and arm holes are off. At this moment it's hanging in a corner. It was so much effort and the ties on the sleeves look so cute that I just can't bear to totally scrap it. Yet. Perhaps I'll feel motivated to fix it later.

Tank Test

I bought some men's cotton shirts at the Salvation Army and have been thinking about how I can cut them up into summer clothes. I decided to use the Tiny Pocket Tank as a template and cut up one of my men's shirts into a tank. I think it came out pretty well. I'm excited to go buy some more shirts so I can try this again!

Socks for Me

Knitting socks for my husband made me realize I didn't have that many socks for myself soooo I decided to cast on a pair for me. I had a business trip coming up and found socks to be perfect for plane travel. The yarn is from a friend of mine at Moose Manor Hand Paints and I love it. The colors are so rich and even and it's so nice to work with.
